Ok first off i just upgraded my ram from 2gb to 3gb. soo i have a 1gb stick and a 2gb stick in there. i really wanna change the other 1gb stick to a 2gb stick to make 4gb, but the guy at the geek squad at best buy said my laptop (vaio FZ400 custom) said it would only read 3 gb soo the other stick would be a waste. any truth to that?

the other question is i was wondering about upgrading my graphics card. right now i have the NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT. any way changing that for a better one would be as easy as changing the ram was?

    Which CPU ?
I think its based on the Santa-Rosa platform, so it should have no problem addressing 4GB w/64-bit OS.

As for the GPU upgrade, have a look at this sticky.

add in all the sticks and see if it will read it. If it does then your good, if not they take one out.

    A 32-bit OS won't read the full 4GB. (Anywhere b/w 2.5GB to 3.75GB)

Technically, it will recognize all 4 GBs of RAM.

What people are refering to is usable RAM. While your system will READ all 4 GBs, it won't be able to use all 4 GBs. A 32 bit OS will typically top out anywhere from 3 to 3.75 GBs of usable RAM.

I would speculate for your purposes, 3 GBs will be more than enough for your uses. What kind of applications are you runnning where you feel more than 3 GBs of RAM will benefit you?
