I dont know what is causing this but my cpu is always set to 999mhz Rather than 2ghz i have a core duo 2500, and my super pi score for 2m is over 2mins. Im using notebook hardware control but even on max performance setting it runs at half speed, i dont know what the problem is. I have a HP nc8430.

This is all on AC power

    thx for any help.

YOu can probably turn off speedstep in the BIOS which will make it run at full speed all the time.

i tried putting it on "always on" but nothing changed

EDIT: Cpu-z and notebook hardware control both say it is still 999mhz but my super pi score for 2M is now 1min 21, so im guessing it worked, thx! but im wondering why they say the speed is still half?

its the way core duo is built. it will always idle at 999mhz if you're doing nothing. but when its doing something, i.e. calculating super pi, it will kick the cpu into full gear. if you open up cpuz and then start super pi, you'll see it jumps into 2.0ghz. I had this issue also and I just thought cpuz wasn't reading correctly because my pi cal to 2 mil was 1:15 and no way 999mhz can do that, called up asus and thats what they told me. this is a cool feature of core duo, why waste it when you're not using it? just like some v8 engines will turn 4 cylinders off at crusing speed, but kick into full 8 cylinders when in throttle mode.
