I have a Compaq Presario CQ57. It's not all that great. I got it when I was going to uni but I'm not going anymore so I'm in a job. My desktop computer isn't used anymore and it just sits there - it's decently powered but I just don't need it any longer, my dad's gonna salvage some parts from it later today. Thing is, are there any potential upgrades for a CQ57? Can the screen be upgraded to a different resolution or am I stuck at this one? I know I can put an SSD in it. The thing is, it was on buy now pay later, so I haven't even paid for the it yet. £350. I think I might just be best getting a newer laptop at one point, something with a decent res and build quality. Opinions?

tilleroftheearth Wisdom listens quietly...
If this is the level of your system;
See:
Compaq Laptop PC, Black, 15.6", AMD Dual-Core Processor - Walmart.com
and you need it for anything more than just browsing the internet; I would say do not spend any more money on it.
If you're able to still get student prices for Windows 8 and upgrade this to at least 4GB RAM (I would try 8GB myself...) then this would be the limit for making this system 'usable' (Windows 8: $15, 2x 4GB Sodimm's $35-$40).
SSD in this? Sure, it will make a difference - but all it will do is show you how slow the processor really is.
Replace a working screen? Makes no sense at this end of the price spectrum (to me).
Hope this helps.
Good luck. -
