Cracked Laptop screen... Help!

Hello,
I wanted to start by saying my knowledge is limited. Yesterday was the first time i've heard the terms LVDS or eDP.

I have an Acer Aspire 3 A315-51-35FR Laptop

I THINK I've found some replacements for the 15.6'' 1366 x 768 display?

I THINK my laptops interface is LVDS?

I also know an identical sku of the Acer Aspire A315-51-35FR exists with the only difference I can see being the 1080 screen (ie. same CPU/iGPU, RAM, screen size and mounting location). Am I able to upgrade to a FHD 1080 screen?

It says it's an eDP (1 Lane) 30 Pins Connector. I've counted the pins on the connector located on the rear of the LCD screen and i'm sure it's 30 pins.

I've also been told if I wish to use the higher resolution screen in the laptop I will first need to change the video cable in the laptop to a Full HD channel cable (NO cable model info) capable of handling the higher resolution, the current video cable in the laptop will not support the higher resolution. Is this true? How do I find this information out? I don't even know where to start looking.

 

That is usually true - unless Acer installed FHD cable for whatever reason. First you need to confirm the mobo has 2-lane edp not 1-lane. If your laptop came with FHD displays, likely any motherboard of this model supports FHD displays with appropriate cable (though exceptions sometimes happen - but mostly with 4k vs fhd support, not your case). Next, you find out the part number of this cable - from service manual or availavle parts list for your model if they are publically available, or from web search otherwise - and order it. Same goes for displays, to stay on the safe side.

Yes, you should be able to upgrade directly, with-out the cable.

The N156HCE is good, and there is also the NV156FHM-N4B. Cant go wrong with either unless you want 144hz.
