Is there a way to use the Sound Blaster Xtreme Audio X-Fi to play sound through my notebook PC's speakers instead of headphone only? I don't see an option.

My notebook is a Dell Vostro 1500.

    Thanks.

It should have the play-trough option...the Audigy Notebook had it. But I would strongly recommend against it, as the notebooks speakers are crap, even if used with this soundcard...use some decent speaker system instead, there are some nice portable ones too.

I don't know how to answer your question but I can confirm that the X-Fi will play through your notebook's speakers. On the Creative.com site under the Audigy 2 ZS Notebook card, it says under requirements:
Yet under the X-Fi ExpressCard there is no such statement.

When using an external sound card, there will be a slight performance hit, but you will gain better-than-onboard-sound.

    Example:

    Without an external sound card-
You raise the sound quality level in your game, thus leading to more CPU usage to process the sound for better sound quality.

    With an external sound card-
You raise the sound quality level in your game to the same level as in the previous scenarion, thus leading to the same level of CPU usage in the previous scenario. This would give even better sound quality than onboard.

This has been my experience, but then again this depends on what external sound card you get.

Actually, no, there will be no CPU hit at all, and CPU usage will go down if you compare EAX onboard (which would be EAX 2 max, and done in software) to EAX on an SB (which would be done in hardware). SB also has hardware resampling and stuff, so even without EAX, performance might be increased a liiiitle bit.

I see no way to get it to play through my speakers so far, unfortunately.
