Hi all! This is my first generated thread, and I'll try not to waste your time with something already discussed before, I'm just having trouble finding the info. If you have a link to a post or page that answers it, that'll work too.
Anyhow, my question is why would it be bad to update the firmware in the Crucial C300 from 0002 to 0006? I just bought a used one in the forums, and I noticed people were nitpicking the drives over whether the firmware had been updated, apparently preferring the non-updated versions.
Also, what's the story on SATA 6GB/s supporting TRIM function in these drives? Is it fully supported in Windows 7 Ultimate SP1, or does it even matter with background garbage collection? Does any lack of TRIM support in SATA 6GB/s make it more worth taking the performance hit and install it on a SATA 3GB/s port instead?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

What SATA 6Gb/s controller is it? Hopefully Intel.

I'll be using it for the Clevo P150HM I have on order. I'm not sure which controller it uses, but I know the M/B is an HM65 chipset. I'm fairly certain the SATA controller is an Intel chip, hence all of the issues leading to the B3 stepping and the Sandy Bridge delay.

If it's an Intel controller, I believe you should be fine (regarding performance and TRIM on Windows 7) if you just install the latest drivers:

Regarding 0002 vs 0006, some people seem to have had issues with 0006, but I haven't yet.
(though some have reported stuttering issues on both 0002 and 0006)
I would say, try run the drive with 0002 and if you have issues, then try update to 0006. (do not try to flash 0002 back after flashing 0006) -
Okay, I think this is exactly what I'll do. Thanks for putting my fears to rest in regards to TRIM support in SATA 6GB/s.
