Hey guys, I just read Phil's review Crucial M4 128GB SSD Review, and right now I was about to pull the trigger until i saw the LPM issue.
Will it be ever fixed?
thanks,

so IF the lpm issue was fixed, battery life could still be longer?

No LPM issue for me so far. Got my m4 in yesterday, it was revision 0001 out of the box, I just immediately flashed it to 0002 before doing anything with it. Installed Windows, bunch of programs and stuff, web browsing, etc for like 4 hours with no hitches.
Oh, and I even have the RST installed (probably an older version though, it's over a month old). Didn't do the registry fix to disable LPM as the firmware did it. It seems that most of those it didn't work for have MACs. But even those are reporting success on the Crucial forums. -
Don't worry about LPM. I've had mine since the C400's first came out. Did the LPM registry fix, and have no desire to upgrade the firmware to 0002, or anything else. Mine has has no issues whatsoever. I'm not worried about battery life though. I have my settings set to high performance, and for my ssd to never turn off, so LPM would do very little for me as I want power hungry high performance at all times. I've had RST installed from the begginning as well.

@ OP, don't worry.

as for me battery life is an issue so lpm does matter. i just saw in the m4 thread that you need to switch to ide to update the firmware. darnit my laptop does not have an ide mode and its the only computer i have.
i really wanna get this ssd but there always seem to be an issue somewhere. -
I just did it in ATA mode on my l702x. Flashed fine.

Why not get in touch with Crucial? I'm sure they will sort you out an M4 with updated firmware. Or, if you're buying elsewhere, tell them you'll only buy if they make sure it has the latest firmware 002. -
For what notebook are we talking? Only on low power using notebooks it makes sense to buy for battery life.
If you're looking for the lowest power consuming drive Crucial M4 doesn't make sense. -
i want to be sure it works since it will be a royal hassle if something goes wrong and i have to send it back to the u.s.

In my opinion the Crucial M4 w/o LPM eats battery as a power efficient 5400rpm hard drive:
Keep in mind the Toshiba in the review is one of the lowest powered hard drives available.
An SSD can make ~ 0.5 - 1 watt difference in power consumption. In a laptop with those specs, I strongly doubt you'll notice any differences. -
With the new firmware you do NOT have to disable LPM. The firmware has tweaks to resolve the issues with LPM staying on.

Hmm, most I've seen are fine after the firmware and re-enabling LPM. The ones that aren't appear to mostly be MACs, there might be something else at work there?
-
I never tried firmware 0001 but when I reacieved my Crucial M4 256GB then I immediately flashed to 0002 firmware. I didnt apply any fix and my Windows 7 works without any problems.
These are my actual speeds with the Intel RST driver (Sata II notebook):Attached Files:

Ok so do i have to manually upgrade to 0002 firmware?
-
And if you aren't having the stuttering issue (and didn't the LPM registry edit to avoid it), I wouldn't worry about it. But if either is true, yes, you should do the update, it has fixed most cases of the issue. -
Same here, no problems after firmware update.

With a C300 I updated firmware in AHCI mode without problem.
