A simple question for users of the Crucial M4 in notebooks: Did firmware 2 solve the LPM issue?

I don't know because I'm using it in Apple now.

Well mine runs fine on FW2 in my XPS l702x, but I flashed it before doing anything with it, so I don't know if I would have had the issue beforehand. Runs great though, very happy with it!

OK. I guess I should have asked: Is your drive affected by the LPM issue with firmware 2?

Then the answer is NO. Apparently I can't change my vote though.

I've run both on battery and on AC (both with and without battery in) for numerous hours on each, done some gaming and all kinds of stuff, no stuttering that I could see, certainly nothing on the order of 30s pauses like people were reporting.

No freezes but I didnt test 0001 firmware. As I heard from Crucial forum, there are some problems on MAC only.

Never had problem with M4 128GB on SATA I or SATA II with 0001, now updated to 0002, and still don't have any issues... so I guess this poll doesn't apply to me.

Firmware 1 created freezes on my Toshiba and Mac. Disabling LPM fixed it for the Toshiba.

Firmware 2 runs great on the Mac now.

I thought you'd got rid of your M4.

I did. But now I got a 256GB M4. It runs great. Good battery life too.

But I can't justify the costs when compared to Seagate XT. The XT is perfect for my light usage pattern. So I will be selling the M4 and keeping the XT.
You're welcome ;) I know everybody likes to vote :)

    I'm on a 2011 Macbook Pro 17" i7:

With 0001 I could reproduce stalls/beach-balls on OS X with LPM enabled by rebuilding the Spotlight index. Disabling LPM via a HDAPM hack (see Crucial forum) solved all issues. On Windows I got some stalls, too, when LPM was enabled.

With 0002 I experienced exactly *one* (1) beach-ball situation within several weeks use (no more HDAPM hack used). Other users report different experiences though.

On Windows I noticed that the Intel AHCI driver often falls back to 3G, this does not happen with the MSAHCI driver (which is only very slightly slower). Since current 17" Macbooks are reported to have additional issues with cabling/emi/whatnot this is not too surprising. Others report far worse issues with their 6G connection.

I also tried using the Optibay at 6G, but the Intel driver falls back to 3G at once when there's considerable load and the MSAHCI driver falls back to PIO mode after several stalls. Obviously this is not caused by LPM, but Apple hardware issues. The reason I write about this is to make clear again that unfortunately LPM is not the only issues to deal with when it comes to stalls.

0001 caused freezes. 0002 fixed that problem. Runs great.

Out of curiosity, what was the initial shipping firmware version? IIRC, 0001 was the first update.

I believe 1 was the initial firmware, 2 is the update.
