Looks like a good deal from TigerDirect if you don't have to pay sales tax. Otherwise, it's basically a wash with Amazon.

Newegg has the 256GB for $100 and 512GB for $200 with promo codes. For value alone these are very good drives. For performance the 512GB is the better choice of the two. Personally, I want to see TweakTown's review, especially "steady state" to get a better idea about "real world" performance.

frustrating that they're not including a 1TB drive. One would think that the large capacity drive would be the most desirable of a non-performance-oriented drive.

I agree. I was thinking the same thing. It's a "budget" drive which to me means "storage" more or less, not necessarily a boot drive, so why not 1TB?

I totally get your guys' point, but I think most people looking for a budget SSD aren't trying to spend upwards of $400.

Budget is cost per GB not necessarily cheap. Budget means I'd rather spend $400 than $600-700 and paying for performance you don't necessarily need.

I bought this to replace Samsung PM830 and I like it, my fourth SSD in 4 years.

Need some help for anyone with this (or who has any clue what to do)

I plugged this into my laptop, however the socket in which the SSD sits is too deep for the size of the SSD itself. Therefore, the SSD is not sitting level; rather, it is tilted and I am afraid that any sudden movement of the laptop will result in the sata port snapping.

How can I level it? What should I put under the SSD?

I'm guessing you're trying to insert the drive into a standard 9.5mm bay, but the drive itself is only 7mm tall, hence the discrepancy. There should be a small plastic ring inside the box. This attaches to the drive with double-sided tape and acts as a spacer to ensure the drive stays level.

My problem is actually the opposite. Lengthwise, the drive is fine; that's what the spacer would be used for (if I had a 9.5mm bay; mine is an older 7mm and the spacer is rendered useless).
My problem is the depth of the bay. The spacer does not do much in leveling it; as it is so thin that the difference is marginal.

Clear tape, fold it up, or some soft foam. Just stuck it in there till it is stable.

Or just a piece of cardboard. Most shipping boxes cardboard is about 2-3mm thick and seems to work just fine.

Looking at these early numbers of the MX100, if the usage is light, lots of recovery time, the MX100 is faster. Heavier usage favors the Seagate 600. Crucial is considered very reliable. Seagate is kind of new, with this SSD, and hasn't earned the same reliability yet.
