I am considering upgrade one of my laptop's memory to 8GB. Anybody is using crucial's DDR2 800 laptop memory here? Could you please let me know if crucial would run hot, compared to corsair?

I noticed crucial's 8GB kit is more expensive than 2 packs of 4GB, aren't they same thing?

    8GB: $270
    Newegg.com - Crucial 8GB (2 x 4GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory Model CT2KIT51264AC800 - Laptop Memory
    4GB: $126
    Newegg.com - Crucial 4GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Laptop Memory Model CT51264AC800

One more thing, I never used DDR3 before, it seems DDR3 is much cheaper compared to DD2. So, can DDR3 run on the DDR2 slot? Why DDR3 is so economical?

    Thanks, Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been using Crucial's DDR2 800 memory for the past 4 months, very solid RAM.

DDR2 memory is in the process of being phased out, that's why it is very expensive, although cheaper than it was when 4 GB modules came out (300-400 a pop).

DDR3 is pretty much the new standard on 400+ dollar notebooks.

No, DDR3 and DDR2 are completely different. Different voltages, the key notch, everything. No they will not fit and it would be unwise to force it in.

    Thank you for those info.

I am currently using Cosair DDR2 2x4GB on the other laptop. It's stable though, and much lower price. But on the bottom of laptop, the memory chip area is noticable hotter.

    How's your crucial? running cool?

Nothing out of the ordinary. RAM shouldn't be noticeably hot, not that it doesn't get hot.

WUXGA, your RAM isn't putting out much heat, regardless of how hot it feels or that area of the laptop feels.

Its your processor or GPU most likely... Also look for some other brand of RAM... crucial is expensive.. if you can get Gskill or some cheaper RAM , get that since RAM is RAM.
