RealSSD C300 0007 Firmware Update Feedback Thread - Crucial Community

Note: This is firmware from Revision 0006 to Revision 0007. It will not work for updating between any other versions. If your drive has Revision 0001 firmware, then you MUST first perform the intermediate step of updating to Revision 0002. If your drive has Revision 0002 firmware, then you MUST first perform the intermediate step of updating to Revision 0006.

P.S. If you are not currently experiencing any issues, there is probably no reason for you to update your SSD's firmware.

I'm still backing up all my stuff.

I'm not experiencing any stutter issues, but my 4k queued writes aren't that consistent and same for sequential writes which dipped to ~50MB/s for a 25GB file (much worse than my barefoot based drive which wrote ~170MB/s in the same situation), so I'm hoping 0007 will redeem my C300.

good luck, hope to see happy results from you.

(btw, backing up? does the firmware kill the installation?)

I heard 0006 had issues but I was never able to figure out exactly what those issues are.

As far as I know everything is fine with mine.

Can you elaborate though what the known 0006 issues are and what 0007 is supposed to bring to the table?

    Edit:

    vicious

if those where the issues of 0006, 0007 doesn't solve them.

After the firmware update, I think it booted quite a bit faster. :p At least the flash was non-destructive.

Nothing too scientific, but copy speed seems to be up to ~200MB/s. Yahoo!

Guess I'll update soon as I get a backup done first.

I assume I'll have to burn a disk and swap over to IDE in my bios, if I am lucky can use my flash drive and save a disk.

namaiki, so did your update kill your install or did it go smooth?

i've got no problems here but may update.

After the firmware update, all of my files were as I left them.

Still, don't do anything rash.

After updating the firmware on mine, I also noticed it booted faster, not much but enough for me to notice. The write speed increased slightly as well, read speed still the same. Before the update i did notice a stutter every once in while, but I never did think to attribute it to the SSD; I haven't seen any stuttering yet on this firmware, but time will tell.

On a side note, I've had my C300 for a year, and I am happy to say it reports as 99% healthy in crystaldiskinfo. Not sure how accurate that is, but it looked good.

It counts the number of write cycles up to 5,000. The SSD will continue to run after that until it physically wears out. The meter is just for your own information.

I've had mine for about 2.5 months and it reports 97% healthy with 159 cycles (256GB C300). I suppose I have relatively heavy usage.

Just bought and received my C300 256gb that is firmware 0006. My system is brand new and no perosnal files to backup etc.

Should I upgrade to 0007 or just clean install to the drive as it is?

Ok. Since I bookmarked this thread for future reference - I just installed my New C300 256gb today after getting my M18x recently. Before doing so, I put the blank SSD on port 0 , set bios to ATA, performed the firmware flash from 0006 (which it came with) to 0007 via the .iso I created from Crucial website. All went well with that. Changed back to AHCI and proceeded with OS install/updates. Brilliant I thought.

The drive itself seems to be fast enough (see attatched CDM shot - although I dunno about the 4k's....tad low??? or not).....

Anyway, thing is that I am getting random lockups where the mouse cursor will just spin and remain "movable" for 30 seconds or so....then it will become operable again....during this hang time, I cant do a thing...it just hangs there....I have read some stuff on the crucial forums but does anyone know of something I can do to eliminate this? - I am on the latest firmware...clean install....everything done to the book or so I thought yet Im not happy with these "freezing" sessions that occur very randomly.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

Maybe you will have to disable LPM after all.

It should work for both SSDs. I believe the computer just needs to have an Intel chipset.

Yeah, I heard that it was to do with Intel RST Drivers....my event viewer just shows lots of Iastor timeout errors for each "hang" - hopefully this will sort it out. Thanks +Rep for pointing me in the right direction as I wouldnt have looked in the Crucial M4 Thread.

Update - three freezes in the space of one cup of coffee when it didn't miss a beat yesterday makes for a very unhappy Anth :(

Is this after just updating the firmware to 0007 or after you have applied the LPM fix?......I did the 0007 firmware update from 0006 on a brand new drive before installing it so dont know if I would have been getting freezes on 0006 or not but I do know that I was getting freezing on 0007.

Only applying the LPM fix for the port that I installed my drive to actually fixed this issue for me.

If you have done the LPM fix, I would strongly recommend doing so.

Well, I couldnt really say about sata II or III as I flashed the SSD firmware to 0007 in ATA/IDE mode and then went right on to fresh install the OS. My drive was 0006 out the box but I never installed to it until I did the firmware to 0007.

It was a brand new blank drive before and all I did was remove my factory HDD, put the C300 on Port 0 where the HDD was, flash the firmware via .iso from Optical Disc.

Then went back into bios, reverted to AHCI, proceeded to install Windows and that was that. Job done. I noticed the stutter/freeze so did the LPM fix right away.

My drive has always show up as Sata III 6gb/s in RST > Adanvced View.

My drive sometimes shows as Sata III 3gb/s , 6gb/s really unstable in RST > Adanvced View  .

But hwinfo64 says Sata III 6gb/s

Weird. My RST has always shown Sata III speeds....havent used Hwinfo for some time due to lockups (which I know can be sorted by checking a few boxes under Hwifno).

I do know of a few other members who report ports randomly showing Sata II vs Sata III speeds....Amosingh was one....

Excellent. C300 is still a great drive....maybe not the fastest by todays standards but WOW is it fast or what!! (coming from someone with no real previous SSD experience, I am loving it!)

11-12sec boot up speed in real time is fast enough for me , even thou ocz is much faster, around 8-9sec but still 1-2sec you won't feel any different.
