    hi,

I was considering modding my Thinkpad x41 so that it uses SSD with sata interface.

I have seen the intel g1 works with X41 and the transfer speed is limited to 1.5gb/s.

Micron's website states that the C300 is backward compatible to SATA I and II but Crucial's product info on C300 only states that it is backward compatible to SATA II.

Is anyone using RealSSD C300 with SATA I?

    thanks.

SATA/600 is backwards compatible with SATA/300 and SATA/150.

x41 does come with SATA chipset but it is somehow converted into PATA.

I know someone who does specific modifications to thinkpad and the following is what's posted in his blog

well, it is hard to sign up when the website is in korean..

They use a SATA to PATA bridge, lord knows why. I don't know what they're charging you to do the mod, but they do make SSDs for the X4x machines. You can get them on eBay. I think the 32GB is around $100. They go up to 128GB. I don't see a reason to get a crucial drive as the systems going to be capped anyway. One of those would offer much better/quieter performance than a standard X4x machine.

I don't think it will cost more than $30 for him to do the mod.

I used to have Mtron 3018 (32gb, SLC) for x40 but I had to sell the x40 (mint) for $140 to my roommate.... I was doing a favor....... i guess..

the modder has a bios fix for non-lenovo certified ssd posting error during boot up and I think the $30 covers the bios mod too.

I was thinking of getting one of these for about $180,
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170540368094&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

but i heard that it is capped at 30~40 mb/s for sequential read and write.

so I just thought, why not pay $130 for RealSSD C300 64gb 1.8" which support trim and garbage collection + modification fee, compared to the $180 lenovo certified ssd (samsung 64gb SLC)

please let me know if i am making a proper choice.
