    Thank you for the link.

Unfortunately, my still-under-warranty M4s are *not* supported by this tool, not happy about that...

    Thanks for the heads-up.

I've just tried it out on my Samsung NP900X4C which has a 480GB M500 inside and, as an extra, I attached, via a USB-mSATA adapter, a 512GB M550 which arrived a few hours ago (on sale at Crucial UK 2 days ago at <£130).

The software interface comes up on the default web browser.

It told me that my new M550 had a firmware update so I gave that a try. These are the release notes.

The firmware update involved a system reboot but went through OK in spite of the drive being connected by an adapter.

The SMART data tells me that the M550 is at 50C - surprisingly hot for something in the open air but perhaps the USB interface arrangement disables any power management.

I'm a little surprised that Crucial didn't take a look at the Samsung SSD Magician and add the OS optimization feature to ensure that the optimal power management, including for the SATA link (see my post here), is enabled.

Update: I've now put the M550 in the mSATA slot in the Dell E7440. The temperature is now a more reasonable 35C.

Crucial Storage Executive recognises non-Crucial SSDs but only reports basic information such as drive capacity and usage for the non-Crucial drives.

ditto! better late than never for these ~best bang for the buck SSDs~ that I have installed on 3 diff. Dell laptops of family members.

Easy way to upgrade firmwares although it said there is no firmware update which I was hoping it would to fix the known issue of suddenly not being able to boot the system although noone has complained to me yet but just saying.

Additionally, it doesn't have any optimization features like Magician has for the OS, still a good start.

all it offers as I can see if the firmware updates and the ability to secure wipe a drive (Sanitize a drive as they call it)

Agreed. Mine's still going strong - it seems weird for them to choose not to support it.
