Hi, I am interested in getting a m500 240GB to replace the HDD in my Samsung Series 5 NP500P4C notebook.

One reason for getting an SSD is to improve my battery life. My current laptop HDD is a Seagate Momentus 1TB at 5400rpm. The Crucial m500 is pretty attractive in pricing, but from what I see idle power consumption is very high at 1W. There's this DIPM+HIPM thingy that reduces power consumption greatly though but I'm not sure how it works and how often it kicks in (anyone can shed some light?)

So, the thing I want to ask is, for light usage (MS Word and web browsing), will I expect my battery life to improve with the m500? Or will I see a dip? Anyone has real world experiences to share?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! :)

After a clean install of the O/S (Win8.1x64 Pro Update 1 highly recommended) and leaving the computer on (disable sleep) overnight you should be seeing a longer battery life vs. the HDD you have now.

Make sure you only have the drive you install Windows to physically connected while doing the clean install, after the O/S boots up for the first time, go ahead and add another drive if you want/can/need to.

    Good luck.
