. well i was always irritated that it's actually a webapp (uses internet explorer.. you'll notice when you run it on a windows server system with the locked down internet explorer settings. when it starts, tons of security remarks pop up).

looks like we'll have to code a simple replacement for it. lets start up visual studio :)

still interested what opencandy is good for. seems like a way to make money without being intrusive for the user. so what does it? how does the crystaldiskmark developer make money with it without us paying something or showing ads?

    just curious.. :)

Sounds like it collects "non-personally identifiable information", if I understood the linked article correctly. The fact that the article didn't go into any more detail than that makes me rather suspicious as to what it collects, but in the grand scheme of things I'm sure most people have installed plenty of software (like DRM or cheat detectors for games) that's far more invasive.

edit: Nevermind. I didn't opt to download their optional program but MSE still picked up adware. Possibly a false positive but it shouldn't have been downloaded at all since I know that I didn't opt into that download.

At the end of the EULA, it clearly states:

To legitimately complain about companies bundling unwelcome things into their software, you need to start reading the EULA, because in this case you did opt into it.

When you download it it asks if you'd like to uninstall opencandy's crap. I thought that it was installing it regardless of me saying no.
