Different laptop vendors, XoticPC and HIDevolution for example, offer different options to modify the stock cooling of laptops, such as different thermal compounds. Here's an example from XoticPC. Are these upgrades ever worth it? Or is it a system by system situation? Are there any vendors that are better than others, or are they all pretty much the same?

If you don't know what you're doing but want the benefits of a factory overclock, or high quality paste, or liquid metal application, or socket CPU delidding, and want them covered by warranty, these are absolutely worth it. All these cooling options are superior but the increasing performance from each comes with increasing risk.

Most vendors are just applying a different thermal paste, which can help but not much. The primary problem with at least the i7s is they way the heatspreader is attached. If you get one from a vendor that does the de-lidding, adds a shim, and covers it under warranty it's completely worth it. Temperatures are improved dramatically (My Sager would easily hit high 80s low 90s while hosting Civ VI, the HID EVOC in my sig has yet to go above 80)

HID Evolution in the US and Obsidian PC in Europe are your best bets
