Is there a big difference between a notebook that has a ddr3 memory and ddr2 assumimg the other other hardwares are the same with gaming and desktop activities.

Not noticeably. Although the laptop which supports DDR3 will most likely have a more superior motherboard and chipset, and will therefore be more futureproof than the laptop which only supports DDR2.

DDR 3 is the way to go.. Certainly makes your laptop future proof...

It there is no significant price difference, fine go ahead with DDR3. It doesn't exactly make the computer future proof though...

Well it'll make the computer "future-proof" in the sense that down the years, when DDR3 becomes more standard, you'll have an easier time upgrading RAM. Other than that, maybe they'll optimize DDR3 so it'll perform better idk.

But yeah, currently there is little to no gian in a DDR2 machine vs a DDR3 one except for IGPs(which I suppose you don't have if you mention gaming).
