I'm looking to buy some DDR memory on ebay for my HP Pavilion ze4400. Will memory taken out of another notebook work in my notebook as long as the specs match? Also, PC2700 memory should work in my notebook, which currently uses PC2100, right? Thanks.

Yes and Yes, you should get a lifetime warranty or I would not touch.

How often does RAM not work? I haven't heard of many cases where memory stops working.

I've had two chips on me die within the last three months...

    But then again, I'm unlucky.

Dealing with reputable stores I have had 4 modules go bad upon first use or within a week.

Dealing with Ebay, I'd bet 50% are bad. :)

But PowerPack is right, just make sure you have a lifetime warranty.

I have never had a memory card die on me, and I never use anti-static wrist band thingies. The only memory I buy is crucial, corsair and supertalent, as they manufacture the highest quality memory.
I actually think Supertalent is pulling ahead of all of the competition lately, with their very high clocked, high performance Samsung memory chips. Oh, did I mention Supertalent is made in the usa, so it is good stuff. :D
Corsair and crucial aldo are mainly made here, but sometimes its made in taiwan. Super only manufactures in the USA out of their three plants, so its all assembled here :D

Just make sure that the memory has a lifetime warranty and you will not go wrong.
