    Hi

Going to be installing RAM into a Toshiba Satellite A55 series notebook. According to Crucial.com (where I scanned to see whats in there/etc)

    http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/viewscanbyid.aspx?id=F010ED6831D926C3

It says there's already one stick of 512mb DDR PC2-5200 RAM. It also says it can take DDR PC2700 RAM.

Is there a difference between DDR PC2-5200 and DDR PC2700? If so, what? Can I mix the two types?

Thanks, in advance, for any replies!

    Cheers,

    FOJO

No, those are two memory types. They're not electrically or physically compatible.

Exactly...that crucial memory scan output is a bit strange. Usually crucial list PC2 as DDR2. The memory scanner probably got confused because apparently there is a satellite A55 that uses DDR memory and one that uses DDR2.

Fojo you will need to confirm which memory type your satellite uses, you can use CPU-Z to confirm what type of DDR memory you have.

I was confused about Crucial's results since they listed both DDR & DDR2 memory for the Satellite. I'll try CPU-Z and see what it says, then post back.

Dont go by crucial's scanner. It has been wrong for me several times.

Just open up the laptop, and look at the memoery yourself. That is the only way you can be sure. ;)
