Hello,
I have seen DDR in 3gb form in some laptops....a 2gb stick and a 1gb stick.
I thought the DDR memory had to be paired in the same increments..1gb with 1gb, 2gb with 2gb.....
Then I read it doesnt make that much of a difference, unless it's a Turion 64x2. I thought I read that Turion makes better use, or benefits from the DDR being in exact pairs.
Anyone keen on this?
thanks
joe

DDR does not have to be paired. But when it is it is called "dual channel". You can see a small performance boost by using ram in dual channel. But, you don't have to.

You do not need to match amounts to have dual channel. The number of chips on the ram will have a slight impact on dual channel performance if they are uneven but generally most chipsets have nearly identical performance between syncronous and asyncronous modes.

ok, cool enough....thanks....not so "afraid" about going 3gb now.
DDR in pairs?
