What would happen if I use DDR II ram on a laptop that only uses DDR ram ?
More specifically the DDR II ram is PC5300 while the laptop requires PC2700 ram.

    Thanks!

It wont fit...Even though they have the same number of pins, the notch is in a different place(also I think the pins on DDR2 is slighly denser).

it is not possible. ddr2 and ddr memory have different sized memory cards and their pinout is different. one has 200 pins, the other has 144 pins, so they will not be compatible.
If your laptop can only use ddr memory, than it can only use ddr memory. DDR2 memory is much cheaper than ddr memory, but it is not swapable, sorry.

But if you can make it work post back.

Like Kdawg and KT said physically won't fit. That is a good thing as you won't fry your MoBo or RAM as they run at different voltages and all.
