My T61 apparently can run 800mhz DDR2... altho it comes with 667, is it worth stripping it all out and installing 800mhz DDR2 instead? (lapop is mainly for programming)
Cheers,
Will

Its unlikely that the notebook can use 800 MHz. Santa Rosa does support an 800 MHz FSB, but it doesn't support 800 MHz RAM. If your looking for an upgrade, just use 667 MHz. Using 800 MHz RAM, will mean it will just downclock to 667 MHz. Only choose 800 MHz RAM if it is cheaper than standard 667 MHz.

As noted Santa Rosa does not support 800MHz DDR2 memory; even if installed, it will only run at 667MHz. The only two notebooks that can utilize DDR2-800 RAM at its full speed are the Asus C90S and the Clevo D901C; they both use desktop 965PM chipsets.

The Asus uses the 945G chipset, wich is somewhat different. 3GB Maximum memory.
The RAM is *supposed* to be @667 but it always underclock to 533 -
My Gateway ML3108b features DDR2 PC2-5300 in it however when i checked on the crucial site for upgades pulled up the 6400 speed modules as well as the 5300.
any ideas on whetaher the MB will support this speed and where i would check motherboard specs?
am thinking i should probably just stick with the 5300 modules.
cheers

Your machine will take ddr2 6400 ram, but it will be DOWNCLOCKED to ddr2 5300.
DDR2 667 vs DDR2 800
