If I upgrade my Sony Vaio SZ750's RAM from 2GB to 4GB, I can buy either DDR2 800 or DDR2 667 for the same price (from newegg). I know the SZ can only use 667mhz even though it has a 800mhz FSB, so my question is this: is there any reason at all not to get the faster RAM, even though my laptop will run it at 667mhz anyway?

Will my battery life be the same? Will performance be the same? Will temperature generation be the same? Etc.

I noticed in the pictures the 667 RAM has smaller chips than the 800, btw, but don't know if that would make any difference.

    here's one reason:

you could buy 667MHz DIMM with 4-4-4-12 timing, and you can not do that with the 800MHz one since it's none of those for sale (as of now). Or in other words, that particular 667MHz RAM will work faster that the 800MHz RAM working like 667MHz module

The Timings of the DDR2-800 RAM above, will downclock from 5-5-5-15 to 4-4-4-12, alongwith the frequency. So go for the G.Skill DDR2-800.
The DDR2-800 CL5 RAM will virtually run as DDR2-667 CL4. No adverse effect on battery life, heat generation, etc

Just future-proof it and buy the faster RAM. I always buy PC3200 for older laptops that only support PC2700/PC2100 because it's cheaper, and the timings are generally the same anyway at the lower frequencies. Once yields are good on higher frequencies, the old timings are leftover stock, thus making the newer chips actually cheaper since they are still being actively repriced to market demand.

Agreed with above, get DDR2-800 if it's the same price.

Ok, thanks for the suggestions. I'll get the DDR2 800 then if I upgrade.
