Which DDR2 PC2 5300 200 pin SO-DIMM RAM that has CAS 4 latency? So far that I can see, all 667 MHz RAM for this class has CAS 5 latency.

most,if not all the DDR2 RAM that I've seen with a CAS 4 latency is 533MHz. most if not all DDR2 RAM that I've seen with 677MHz had CAS LAT 5.

So, which one is faster? 667 MHz CAS 5 or 533 MHz CAS 4?

they pretty much cancel each other out. It's more or less a matter of prefference. Some people like faster clock speeds, others swear by lower latency, It all depends on what you prefer.

A lower Latency is better, as the CPU has to wait fewer clock cylcles to recieve the bits it requested from a particular row and column in one of the memory banks on the module.

However, because of a higher clock speed, 667 MHz, it can transmit more bits per second. So, as Phillip pointed out, it really depends on what you prefer. I seem to think that CAS latency is more a factor in terms of speed that Clock Speed. The price difference when it comes to clock speed is large, but there is hardly any price difference between modules of different latencies.

most accounts I've read have concluded that the 533 at CAS 4 is quicker than the 667 at CAS 5, which is why the even faster pc6400 ram at 833 MHz has been highly anticipated. There has been discussion of this on this board before I believe, try searching for the info.

    Hi All,

Does DDR2 PC2 5300 RAM's with different CAS latencies will work together?

    I have 1GB DDR2 PC2 5300 RAM with CAS Latency 4.

If I buy 2GB RAM with CAS Latency 5, whether it will work with the older 1GB RAM? (Total 3GB).

    OR

I have to buy 2GB RAM with CAS 4?

    Thanks
    Sandy

In real life you won't notice a difference anyways, so get whatever is cheapest.

    Thanks for the clarification.

Does CL4 RAM is better (Faster) than CL5?

I am planning to put total 3 GB (1+2) CL4 (PC2-5300, 667) RAM in my T60p by removing current 2 x 1GB CL5 RAM? Is the change worth?

    Thanks

The speed increase will be from the 2gb of memory to 3gb of memory, not from cl5 to cl4.
The decrease in cas latency may speed things up a bit, but when I say this, I really mean unnoticeable. The difference may be an additional 20mb/sec bandwidth on a sythetic benchmark out of the standard 5300mb/sec, of the memory. Having a lower cl is better, but you will not notice any speed difference, only synthetic tests will show any difference.

Kingston HyperX (see my sig), and G.skill make DDR2 667 SODIMMS at CL4, there may be others.
