It states that 4gb is the max this computer will run. Think it will run 8gb anyways? I have other systems that would state only so much, but when you load it in, it works. think its the same for this computer?

4GB DDR2 sticks are pretty expensive, and not all that common, unless you have someone that can lend you one to test, its a bit iffy, because 4GB per stick support on DDR2 land is not all that common.

Did you find the specs sheet on Acer site support to find out exactly what RAM it uses and expands to? That would be my first place to look to know for sure what Ram Specs are your model and make. If so what is the link so others can read and see what it says. Remember the older the RAM aka DDR2 will cost more then DDR3 laptop ram.

Hardware supports 2x 4GB RAM sticks. However, some Acers of the era had ****ed-up BIOS and were limited to 6GB or 4GB despite chipset capable of handling 8GB. It seems nobody bothered to try anything over 2x 2GB on 7720, you will be the first. Use only low density RAM, high density won't work 99%.

But regardless - why bother? You can buy a better laptop for the price of 2x 4GB DDR2 SO-DIMM modules! Selling 7720 for any amount of money to someone who doesn't know better is much more sensible than investing into it.
Spec sheets of the C2D era often lie about max supported RAM.

I'm a tinkerer. I like trying things. I have a better laptop in my dell. But it's fun trying things. It runs well now, but I like to see if I can make it thst little bit better.

    Is that laptop using a 965 chipset? With a C2D T5xxx/T7xxx processor?

Iirc 8GB was doable on later models with the newer PM45, and even then it depended on the laptop.

On a 965 chipset, your chances are slim to none, 4GB modules didn't even exist back then.

Make sure you can return the memory and please post an update if you tried it :)
