I'm planning to buy the new Sony Vaio FZ190 notebook. I found that DDR2-6400 (800Mhz) can be used on this notebook as its based on SantaRosa chipset. I wanted to make sure its safe to use that memory on the notebook.
Also, Sony doesnt have an option to go with 7200 rpm drives. Will a 5400 rpm be any better?

Any other suggestions are welcome.

From what I gather, the whole 800FSB thing just deals with the processor being able to recieve information that fast and that memory is still at a 667Mhz clock. Although, I am not certain this is true.. I have read it a few times on here that the whole Santa Rosa being 800Mhz FSB was just a marketing gimick as it can only use 667Mhz ram anyways.
Hopefully someone else can shed more light on this. -
Santa Rosa does not support DDR2-800. It supports up to DDR2-667. The FSB has indeed been increased from 667MHz to 800MHz. However, since the memory is capable of being run in dual channel, theoretically you could saturate a 1333MHz FSB, although in reality, it's a bit lower, but suffices for an 800MHz FSB.
So bottom line is, Santa Rosa doesn't support DDR2-800. It'll just run DDR2-800 at a lower frequency. You won't get much benefit at all going to DDR2-800, even if it were possible on Santa Rosa.
DDR2-5300 or DDR2-6400 Memory
