I just saw on Newegg OCZ's 1333mhz RAM kit. Would these be able to be used on an 1066fsb cpu? no, right?

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227351

    that is the link.

Just wondering, not lime im gonna spend 200 and throw out my 1066mhz RAM to get that little boost, but I believe the CPU FSB will conflict with it.

It will work, but the memory frequency and timings will downclock to DDR3-1066. So no sense upgrading !!

Memory frequency > FSB (Not going to happen)

Memory Frequency = FSB :)yes :)

Yeah, I thought so. I don't know why they're selling the new 1333mhz RAM. The core 2 quad mobiles have 1333mhz FSB, though they won't be out for a few months.

Actually, no. The two quads Q9100 and QX9300 have a bus speed of 1066MHz. Its just marketing.

But the Shrike Platform is going to be out next year, alongwith Calpella in Q3, so DDR3-1333 will find some use for itself. Right now, no use.

All DDR (1,2,3) are compatible with same type. When faster is installed than memory bus RAM will downclock to fastest supported speed. When slower than supported is installed will run at maximum RAM speed. When two DIMM's of different speeds are paired they will operate at the speed of the slower of the two.

Answer to your question yes it will work but not at speed. Downclock to 1066Mhz.

    Edit: Worlds slowest typist.

Btw how big a difference between DDR2 SODIMM 667 Mhz & 800 Mhz RAMs?

is it same as that of 1066 v/s 1333?

Not much. With each frequency jump, the CL jumps up too.

I have a question, (im not very knowledgeable with computer hardware, sorry), if yo buy a laptop that comes with ddr2 ram can you upgrade it to ddr3 ram? If it is possible is there much of a performance difference. Thanks.

@ BrainR: No. There is no way around it.

@Dude55: There is an advantage of the 1333mhz memory. If you are planning on overclocking the FSB, you'll have far more stability on the RAM side, which is usually one of the causes for data corruption when the FSB is increased too much. Gives you some headrooms for overclockiing. However, all 1333mhz DDR3 is CAS8 or more, taking a whole extra process cycle compared to CAS7.

I don't have any knowledge on this but I thought this depends on motherboard. For example my future 8730w has Mobile Intel PM45 Express Chipset which supports DDR3 but my laptop will ship with DDR2.

So will I be able to upgrade it to DDR3 and is there any significant difference between DDR2 800Mhz and DDR3 1066Mhz?

    Tnx for answers!
