I have an AMD Llano (Fusion) laptop from HP with A8-3510MX CPU. Anyone recommend 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600 RAM modules that will work with this system? Most are "PnP" Intel Sandy Bridge compatible. But nothing is clear whether it has straight JEDEC timings for DDR3 1600. Preferably CAS 9 @ 1600. Thanks.

It sounds like this is the one your talking about. I honestly don't know what "plug and play for 2nd gen core i5/i7" means, but I will say that 204 pin DDR3 RAM is 204 pin DDR3 RAM. AMD doesn't require specialized RAM, it only needs 204 pin DDR3. ;) I would try it personally, but that's me. I see the feedback there that people are giving. They are running them on macbook pros, dells and alienwares, so I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work with yours.
Also, that's the first time I've ever seen laptop RAM with heatspreaders. :p Kind of funny.

Well that's where the problem is. PnP is an Intel thing, so no guarantee it would work at 1600MHz with the AMD chipset. Macbook, Dell, and Alienware are all Intel. I did email Kingston though to see what they have to say. See this in description:

"Kingston's HyperX PnP memory is programmed with faster frequencies and when 'plugged' into a system using the Sandy Bridge chipset, will automatically 'play' at rated speed in both desktop and notebook PCs - no further BIOS settings required. (Note: PnP implementation is only possible in configurations that include a BIOS that supports the PnP function. Your maximum speed will be determined by your BIOS.) "

Well, I don't know if it's true but one guy that left feedback said the RAM will run at 1333/1600/1866MHz.

If it supports XMP profiles I know it will, but XMP is Intel. No clear information if it's a straight JEDEC pre-programmed speed or if XMP is required.

I may order from Amazon instead of Newegg though because Amazon has basically 100% return guarantee with no restocking fee, unlike Newegg that will charge you 15% plus return shipping is on your dime too.

How did the memory work out, htwingnut? I just ordered a dv6 with the A8-3510 and am looking for fast memory.

Well here's the thread on the DV6Z where the user jmazz83 says the G. Skill F3-12800CL9S-4GBSQ (4GB single) does not work on his laptop at DDR3-1600 speeds alone or with his factory 4GB stick (understandable since his factory stick is DDR3-1333):

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...-amd-llano-6xxx-series-owners-lounge-195.html

Thus why I did not mention those G. Skills would run at advertised speeds on a 45W Llano based laptop. However, if R3d says it works it might still be worth a try.

I'm' pretty sure you saw that comment HTWingNut but may have overlooked it.

Well I know that the hyper-X ram certainly includes a jedec (not just XMP) profile for 1600mhz.

So what's the point of XMP if it can run at 1600MHz without it?

edit: Here's the KingstonX RAM info: http://www.valueram.com/datasheets/KHX1600C9S3K2_8GX.pdf

    Says:

    XMP TIMING PARAMETERS:
    • JEDEC: DDR3-1333 CL9-9-9 @1.5V
    • XMP Profile #1: DDR3-1333 CL7-7-7-20 @1.5V
    • XMP Profile #2: DDR3-1600 CL9-9-9-27 @1.5V

Although this other KingstonX RAM says: http://www.valueram.com/datasheets/KHX1600C9S3P1K2_8G.pdf

    PnP JEDEC TIMING PARAMETERS:
    • DDR3-1600 CL9-9-9 @1.5V
    • DDR3-1333 CL8-8-8 @1.5V
    • DDR3-1066 CL6-6-6 @1.5V

But what the heck is PnP? I know Plug n Play, but what is it? I see nothing about my system that supports it. Plus my correspondence with Kingston they said it wouldn't run at 1600MHz on AMD systems, DV6z specifically.

Not all boards support the JEDEC 1600 profile, even officially, Sandy Bridge doesn't (as it was certified too late to include JEDEC 1600MHz, but the official Sandy Bridge ark spec pages typically list bandwidth as 25.6GB anyways - only achieveable with 1600MHz 128bit [dual channel]).
