i bought my sager m860tu a couple months ago now and got 2 gigs of ram because DDR3 was just so expensive. I've been expecting it to quickly drop in price but i actually dont remember what they started out as...
xoticpc for example charges $100 for 4gb vs 2gb but i found these two on newegg for around $60:

would they be a good buy now or should i wait?

Not bad, I've recently seen some 2x1GB DDR2 kits for $60 so that is definitely an improvement. If you need 4GB, I dont see why one of those sticks would hurt! But holidays are so close, they might drop even more. Or sell out because of the great price, good luck making a decision!

The new chipset that the Core i7 uses will require DDR3 RAM. I'm hoping the demand for this doesn't drive prices back up.

If anything it will help bring the prices down. Like we said a few months ago. The cost of ddr3 (which was like $200 for a 2Gb card) would decrease in price as ddr3 memory became more widespread. Look at it now, $60 for a 2Gb card. Thats a third of the price. Trust me, the way memory prices have been going, the ddr3 memory will probably be $40 for 2gb in a few months, or around the same price as ddr2 memory. Its all a matter of time.

Yeah, I just got a new Macbook and was looking into upgrading to 4GB, but at the current prices, I can wait! When I can get 4GB for $80, I'll take the plunge. And who knows, maybe the latency will be tighter by then.

I would wait unless you need the ram right now. I also think prices will be going down even more as DDR3 is just starting to get popular. For example Lenovo's prices on DDR3 memory were cheaper than newegg, but that has changed by a lot over the last few weeks. Just make sure you get the DDR3 ram before the DDR3 standard goes out of date and there is DDR4 or something, since that is when prices for older RAM technology actually go up. At least that is what I am finding. For example it is going to be more expensive for me to upgrade my DDR machine than what I spent for 4GB of DDR2 ram.

I am sure prices will keep going down. Buy it today if u need it today.

Having something today has a value. I think those prices are good? Yes, will they drop more? Likely. How much I do not know.
One thing to consider is Memory manufacturers are selling RAM below the cost to produce. Micron is closing several plants, AMD I believe announced they are getting out of the IC production side of business, I think if not them someone else big.
What does that mean? Well since selling goods below cost is longterm not viable. And business decisions and adjustments are being implemented as we speak. This RAM gravy train will be coming to an end. When? I don't know I would be a rich man if I could predict those kind of things. -
