Hello,
I have an HP dv5t with a 250 GB 5400 RPM HDD.
It looks like during the next months Seagate will release a 500 GB 7200 RPM model. That sounds like a nice upgrade. Also, I'd like to do the upgrade myslef.
This is what I have in mind to do the upgrade:
1) Connect the 250 GB hdd to my desktop PC.
2) Connect the 500 GB hdd to my desktop PC.
3) Create a full partition backup of the old drive.
4) Restore the backup into the new drive.
5) Install the new drive in the laptop.
I intend to use Acronis True Image and/or Acronis DiskDirector to create the backup/restore and the disk partitions.
Is this procedure viable? I know I'll void the warranty, but I wonder if the Windows Vista OEM license won't like the new hard disk.
Any recommendation is greatly appreciated.

That should work nicely. Windows won't complain, and you won't void the warranty because hard drives are consumer upgradeable parts.
