I personally wouldn't do it but it looks interesting non the less.

Interesting, but I want to remind everyone that this is dangerous, and should only be performed if you really know what you are doing. There is a chance you could fry your notebook or cause it to explode.
-
Intriguing.

I totally agree with Gautam. Lithium Ion batteries are very danagerous if you do no use these cells properly, or you are irresponsible in the application of this procedure. I advise against doing anything of this nature, unless you are absolutely sure of what you are doing. Remember, that Sony, the company who pioneered Li-Ion batteries, have had trouble with these types of batteries.

I can see this causing many to receive Darwin Awards.

$50 says Dell starts offering DIY replacement-cell kits for their batteries using this method.
=P -
So... he saved $7 on the new battery vs. the compatible one, and had to put a ton of work in? Sounds silly to me.
-
Of course you don't have to worry about your printer cartridges combusting. -
I wouldn't place any money on that bet.

It's not that bad. We do it in the R/C world all the time. All-be-it it's mostly NiMH and NiCd but LiPo, Li-Ion, and even LiMg are creeping in. Had a buddy just build a Li-Ion 2-cell pack for his rig. The greatest part is they can unload at incredible rates! He can step them from 7 volts to 12 volts at the flick of a switch in mid run to get a "turbo" feel. I will agree this is not intended for the weekend warrior.

Scary. Any wrong move, you go boom.
And be prepared for another round of battery recalls.... o.0 -
hi
the article explained technical details a lot of people do not know about, and that in itself was good enough to enjoy that article. -
that sound really scary and stupid may i say? oops already did. i think 99% of the notebook user should avoid this route and just buy a new (certified) battery already, and in most cases don't buy uncertified battery.
