I was trying to make a backup of one of my DVD's using DvD Shrink. For some reason the DVD Drive was making a hell of a noise, even though there are only minor scratches to the DVD. So I continues to attempt the backup but just as I selected the option to make a backup I got an error that the dvd cannot be found. At the same time the DVD stopped making noise so I figured it had just stopped. To my horror, when I checked "my computer" I noticed the DVD drive was gone. I checked "Device Manager" and can't find it there either. I tried opening my dvd drive but it doesn't want to open.
I have no idea what went wrong, but it seems like my dvd drive went boo-boo.
My laptop is a 4 month old Sager 9261 from Xotic PC's, but I would like to get some info here before contacting them. Hopefully it's just a silly mistake.
Here is some info on the laptop (from dxdiag):
.. and about a DVD drive after that.
Thanks for any help

is it in your device manager?

Hmm, just fixed it. It wasn't in my device manager, but after looking around the device manager options I saw "Actions" -> "Scan for new hardware". It has now reappeared in the device manager and My Computer.
All seems good, although I'm confused as to why it happened.
