I have a Plextor dvdr px-716a DVD drive, and I am having some issues with my DVD+R Dual Layer DVD's.

I have some folders on a few of them (I think I just burned the folder to the disc), and when I try to access them, the DVD won't show up in the drive.

But if I use the same DVD+R that has an auto-run .exe on it, it will read the disc fine.

And it will also read the blank DVD+R's just fine too.

The DVD+R's with the folders on them are fine, I can put them into my laptop and I can load them up just fine, just not my desktop.

    Anyone know the cause?

What operating system do you have? If it's Vista/7, try to upper/lower filters fix.

    Windows 7 64-bit

I tried deleting the filters, but still nothing.

Did you try the Microsoft Fix it tool?

Try reinstalling the OS on a known good blank hard drive?

Perhaps the media have scratches on them? If they do, try putting a little bit of normal (blue) Nivea creme on them and polishing them with a soft paper tissue for 15-20s. It sounds hard to believe, but this method is 98% effective (when read issues are related to physical damage to the media - I have tested it myself with CDs and DVDs, I haven't tested it with Bluray yet). You could also try to clean Your drive's optic sensor with some "high-voltage" alcohol (80% or more).

Tried Fix it, tried to clean the disc, even tried another disc, just won't read it.

Maybe it has something to do with how I burned them? The laptop that they do work on isn't the laptop I used to burn the files on there, but it still reads it fine, as well as the laptop I did use.

I also updated the firmware of the drive, and still nothing.

And this is why optical drives/media has never been a backup (long term or temporary) for me or my clients.
