    Hello,

okay, all the notebook pros may have a good laugh at me now, but I am really at a loss. I bought my Acer 7738G a week ago. Just prior to this I spent days copying my old video tapes to simple 16x DVDs (Intenso) planning to watch them on my brand new notebook with a blue-ray drive which according to Acer can practically play ANYTHING. But the drive does not even recognize the DVDs ("Put a medium into the drive" - sorry I am no natural English speake so I am just translating this and do not know the original English text for this message, but surely you know what I mean).
The same thing happens with EMPTY 8x double layer DVDs while movies bought on DVD play fine.
I really cannot believe this drive cannot play such plain DVDs!? A firmware update does not seem advisable as Optiarc cautions users of their website to download it if they use a built-in drive.
Oh, and before I forget: Yes, the DVDs recorded on the DVD player are finalized.
    Help, anyone out there?

I don't think there's anything wrong with ur optical drive. If i were u, i'd try seeing if other cds and dvd's work. If not , i'd try doing a driver update from the acer website.... or returning the laptop for a new one....
