I have Vista RC1 running on my ASUS A8Js and I have problems watching DVDs because the channel that the DVD player is attached to is running in PIO mode. I can't change it to DMA because it gives me no option. I don't understand why I am not given the option because the primary channel that runs my hard drive gives me the choice between DMA and PIO. Does anybody know if there is a way to fix this? My DVDs are running really choppy.

Provided the ODD is connected to the secondary IDE channel, go into Device Manager (or the Vista equivalent) and uninstall the secondary IDE channel, then redetect the hardware. The channel should then reinstall itself, redect the ODD and fix the transfer mode. (This fix works most of the time in XP, but I have no experience of vista yet).

Yeah I have tried that already and it just reinstalls itself and uses the PIO mode again. I'm starting to wonder if this is just a problem because I'm not using the final release of vista.

could very well be. Could also be buggy drivers, since Vista is still so new.
