Hi all, i'm new here so please be gentle![]()
i'm looking to upgrade my laptop with a new dvd writer, preferably dual layer. i've not really got a clue which interface my machine uses and what burner i should buy. i've got an hp compaq nc 6400, any help greatly appreciated

You should be able to put any optical drive in your notebook as long as you pay attention to the face plate and the direction of the eject button.

also depending on what interface u have , that drive will only work... My guess would it that u need a PATA optical burner.... but someone with this notebook can really tell u...

i had bought a new writer that arrived today and didn't fit. my old one has a male connection at the back in the middle of the drive and the one i bought had a female connection at the right hand side of the drive.
i tried to insert photo of drives but cant get it to work -
You should stick with the OEM drive that was offered in the system.
you can buy it new for $70. and it is Dual layer, DVD Write and CD Write.
