    Hi,
I would like to understand if the 160GB 7200rpm is better the Fujitsu or the Seagate (talking of performances and noise).
And if the slot loading DVD RW is better the Mat****a (or Matsu****a, by Panasonic), or the Teac (as before, talking of perfonrmances and noise).
I have the Mat****a, and is silent with music CD but very noisy with a data DVD RW. I had problems today, as it was not able to find things there, and the system freezed twice. Then it started to see the DVD as blank. I restarted, and it sees it again.
The DVD itself as a disc had no problems with the LG recorder on my Latitude D830.
As HD I have the Seagate, and I find it quite noisy... Strange, as on the D830 I had the same one... It was very silent.
If I ask for a change I get the Fujitsu. Does it worth?
In the web I can fond very detailed info about those HD, they seem the same.
While I can't find anything about the mat****a. This worries me...
    Help?

I have two Pioneer slotloading drives in my Voodoo laptop. they are quiet, and no do not really cause a lot of vibration. When I am burning two blu-rays at once, my system is very loud because both drives are ontop of each other, and the combined vibration is quite a lot. They are not loud though.
I love slotloading drives, they are so much better than apple slot loading, because we pc users have an eject button.
For your purposes I would recommend the Pioneer DVR-K06 and DVR-K17.

As far as the harddrive goes, the fujitsu drive is significantly faster than the seagate. The fujitsu is about 2-4mb/sec faster, and it is probably cheaper than the seagate drive.
Here is a picture which can show you the relative speeds of most common laptop harddrives.

Seagate harddrives are not all that great, yeah they have a 5yr warranty but the positives stop there. I mainly uses Hitachi harddrives, and Ultrastars and Fujitsu's in my servers.

    I hope this helps

It's likely the Seagate drive will be faster than the Fujitsu, I upgraded my L100 from a Fujitsu 60GB 5400rpm drive to a Seagate Momentus 80GB 5400rpm drive and saw a big increase in speed.

As for optical drives I thoroughly recommend LG. My LG drives have been utterly reliable, quiet, fast and have had no issues whatsoever.

Oh yes, for the HD it helps a lot...
For the DVD, well, unfortunately I can choose only between those two, Mat****a and Teac.
APparently the Mat****a runs pretty silent, but I had a problem yesterday with a data DVD-RW as I said...
I guess the automatic moderator is trying to quit the "dangerous" part of the name of this brand, pretty ridiculous.
    THe model is UJ-875S...
I do not know the model of the Teac right now, but is the one which Dell is offering as DVD+/-RW DL on the XPS M1530...
If it will not give me problem I will keep it, I don't care if it is a bit slower or whatever (I do not know really, as I can't get any specs to compare it with the Teac). I just need it silent and safe...
I guess I have to test is forward, if I find the time...
    ;)

It's difficult to compare capacities. It is necessary to compare the HDD model / generation. Some of the latest 160GB HDDs have one platter with data transfer rates the same as a 320GB HDD. And there could be one or two previous generations with progressively lower data densities (and lower performance).

Yes, if I uderstood well, the more the capacity, the faster the HD because of more density?
Even if someone told me that maybe the head could work too much and breack sooner...
Anyway, I opened a case because the HD was too noisy for me and I am quite completely sure it is just the one I have and not the model itself (seagate). They have fujitsu now, so I will see if there is any noticeable difference.
Anyway, I am not sure I would notice something so simply. And about noise, I had another HD, same model of Seagate, and it was totally silent. It may depend on the notebook (one could maybe be more insulated?)

Would there be any differance with the 200GB 7200rpm: Fujitsu or Seagate?

i thought that seagate was the best type of HD, imo 200 gb 7200rpm

To the original poster, I would go for the matsu****a optical drive over the teac drive. I have found that teac has been a little flaky on their products in the last few years.
