Is this a common problem? I burned some files onto a CR-RW to move to my old computer, with a 1998 Sony DVD-ROM drive, and it does not like to read the CD-RW. It eventually will, but it takes opening and closing the drive a few times, and even after it recognizes the CD sometimes it locks up when I try to move the files in Windows Explorer (running Win98). Open the DVD drive to end the lockup, and it bluescreens.
I read up on this before posting, and found the following:
So does this mean my 1998 DVD-ROM drive has borderline high enough sensitivity? I'd think it would be more than enough since DVDs are much more compressed than CDs. But I did notice the visibly lower reflectivity of the CD-RW; could this negate the sensitivity my drive has to read DVDs?
My particular CD-RW is a Memorex which labels itself as 4X speed.

Make sure the session is closed and you are not using packet writing (UDF) to copy files. Old DVD ROMs have trouble reading multi/open sessions disks and windows 98 cant read packet written disks without special drivers.
OR it could be your DVD ROM being too sensitive as you said.
DVD-ROM doesn't like to read CD-RWs?
