So I have come to the sad realization that my graphics card does not support TV-out through the VGA port... Anyway, I need some recommendations for VGA to RCA and S-Video conversion boxes from you guys. The less money it cost the better, but I want good signal and am comfortable spending $100. Will spend up to $150 if it is really worth it... Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks.

**EDIT: Title says "DVI-->..." meant to say "VGA-->..." Sorry** If an admin could change the title or the delete thread it would be appreciated

There are a couple boxes on the market, and quality does degrade when used. I do not have any experience with them, so I will not weigh in. However, I will ask what you are trying to do. Are you just trying to play movies off your laptop, or are you wanting a secondary monitor...? If you are doing it for just movies, you may want to consider some kind of media center/device as a standalone product that would hook up how you need but also provide some stand alone capabilities.

I am planning to use it to play movies, television shows etc when I am away at college. I plan to use my laptop as my primary media center. I want the device to be somewhat mobile so I can go to different dorms etc and hook it up to their TVs. Any other suggestions as to how I could achieve this?

I would consider a Media Extender of some sort tbh.

An old xbox and a copy of XBMC would do this nicely.
