Is it possible? im planning on buying a new sager 5796 model and i was wondering if i could somehow convert the signal as i enjoy hooking the computer up to the TV to watch shows and such.

May be a very stupid/irrational method but i was thinking of getting a DVI to VGA analog adapter then a VGA to s-video analog adapter to go on top of that....

    any help would be appreciated,
    Thanks!

If this model has DVI-I (digital and analog signal) then DVI->VGA and VGA->Svideo adapters are the best solution.

Yes, Sager NP5796 has DVI-I. DVI-I->VGA adapter costs about $5.

Look at something like this - http://www.grandtec.com/products/video/xppro.html
These products are available in normal shops even here in Czech Republic.

(btw if you find VGA->TV $5 cable, it's not universal. It's only for supported matrox cards)

Which VGA-Svideo cable? Put a link to a cable which you mean and I told you if it can be used.

But VGA and Svideo have different signal logic, so there must be a converter chip.

You can't use this cable with your laptop. It needs special support in you graphics card. There are no cards in laptops with this support (it is for Matrox G400/G450/...) so you need an adaptor with integrated chip which convers VGA signal to PAL/NTSC.
