I have a 21" CRT monitor and it uses both a VGA and DVI-A (Though the connection on the back is a DVI-I). I use to use the VGA but I got a DVI-D that came from my Dad's LCD monitor and I was wondering if I could connect it to my laptop. So basically it would look like this:

    Laptop: DVI-D (Dual-Link)
    to
    CRT monitor: DVI-I (Dual-Link)
    With the DVI-D cable.

    Thanks

You will need to get a DVI-D to DVI-I cable, or an adaptor to convert the DVI-I to a DVI-D port. If you get the adaptor, then you should be able to connect the two devices using a standard DB15 cable.

Considering that your E1705 has a DVI-D port on it, it shouldn't be a problem. I am always connected to an external DVI LCD monitor with my notebook.

No. That is an extension cable. You need a DVI-D to DVI-I male to male cable in order to connect the two devices. However, you could use that cable to convert your DVI-I port into a DVI-D port, so that you would only need a DVI-D male to male cable which are much more common.
