    A very short question;

    Is there any danger to changing the "Drive Letter" of a Drive to something else?

    I have got a new computer (have not installed any software myself yet), with a memory stick drive called "F:" (a drive I have never ever used), but I would like to change the letter. Any reason not to do so?

    The only time you will have problems by changing the drive letter is if you have something installed or pointed to that particular drive. Otherwise, such as your new memory stick, there is no problem at all.

    Do you have any files that are drive dependent?

    I use AutoCAD and believe me, you don't want to change drive letters when it comes to your drawing files and external files that are referenced.

    For a memory stick, you should be Ok changing the drive letter. Now your system drive might be another issue.

    The same can be done for a drive containing personal files only such as music, pictures and word document. For drives where software are installed, you'll have to update windows registry, so windows would know the new location of the installed programs.

    Note that the drive letter for the drive contaning the directory Windows can't be cahnged.

    Technically, you can, through the registry.

    I can show you the MS articles/instructions if you want, but it is not recommended, the procedure is designed more for changing back a system drive letter that got changed, for example, when you break a mirror volume.
