I know this has been asked a million times, but.... I have the problem too unfortunately. Maybe.
I attached two pictures, one showing a dead HDD and the other perfectly normal HDD, it's only a quick scan but I don't think it matters. Anyway I managed to save all the files from it, even if there are some errors, it wasn't full so I did manage that.
What really happened was I tried to write some files on it and then a small yellow triangle popped out in the tray telling me that windows was unable to write all data to it, like $mft, the file that I was copying, and some other stuff, popping out like 10-15 times. So I disconnected it and tried to connect again and my problems started. It would want to connect and then even if it did, it would show unknown size, like it is not formated. So I opened the casing, played a little bit with the IDE connection and tried to recover some files which was successful. After that I formated it and the size was then shown and everything was normal. Then I made this two pictures.
So my question is what to do now, how to know if it's good or not, is the IDE connection, coz it makes some strange sound from the day I bought it, the IDE not the HDD, the HDD runs very silently with no strange sounds, clicking or whatever.

Do a full scan of HD tune. It could take up to 2 hours.
Write errors and reported damaged sectors is usually a sign of a dying HD. Try replace your connector if you can. -
spinright is the best repair program! , it`s not free though

HD Tune says the disk is good. The disk is now working and connecting as it should, as it did before. I believe it was just a connection, even though I don't understand why it showed errors then.
Anyway thanks everyone for trying to help me. -
Is the damaged HDD still under Warranty?
