I rescued a Westinghouse NB-14w2 laptop from my granddaughter. It will absolutely NOT power up, on AC nor battery. No lights, no hum. Are there any fuses or switches of which I am unaware? Any advice before I gut-shoot it? Thanks for your input.

I have one of these myself, and have had trouble in the past with the DC input jack for the power supply on the side of the laptop.

It has a tendancy to "arc" out and not make contact. Unfortunately, the fix for this is more costly than the machine is worth. ($99.00 and up).
If you decide to try it yourself, I could guide you through the dissasembly, (with pictures if you need them) as mine is apart already due to a fried motherboard that I cannot find for a price I am willing to pay.

If anyone else reads this, and has one they wish to get rid of that has a good motherboard, I am looking. It can have cracked screen, no ram, no hard drive, etc, I just need something to pull the motherboard out of. Not too many of these around though, it seems like everyone just threw them away when they went out. Too bad, it actually was a pretty decent machine.

That may be worth a try. It would be appreciated. I have a hunch it may be heat related, as she would consistently plop it down on her bed, not allowing it to "breath".

I would be more than glad to help out, let me know when you want to do this, and I will step you through it. Please feel free to contact me directly through my email address listed in my first post.

You may be right about the overheating, mine ran hot to begin with also.
Was there an electrical burn smell at all from it. That is how my motherboard went on mine (plus I plugged in the wrong adapter).

Well to anyone that may stumble across this thread, we got it going again!!! DC jack was loose from the power board, so before you toss them out, check out the little things first on any laptop. I have fixed maybe 20 of these for this reason. Simple fix if you are careful and methodical about taking it apart. Most of the time all you have to do is re-solder the jack, and you are back in business for $0 and a little time.
Nice job OlManJeb, us old guys can still "git-er-done", and with the economy the way it is, more and more people will need this fix.
    Enjoy....
PS. Mine is actually functioning again. What I blew out on mine was the charging ciruit for the battery, and the circuit that contols the cmos clock battery.
These really are nice little units, wouldn't mind having another if I could find one.
