Guys hope this is the right section but I have a quick question. I just saw a dark spot on my laptop's screen. I downloaded UDPixel utility to check what's going on. When I ran the test, you know you see different colors on the screen. I saw the dark little spot in all colors but the blue one. I've heard "dead pixels" are black. So do you guys think it's a dead or a stuck pixel?
Thank you.

it's probably dead given what you describe.

Probably dead, but if it's only one you really don't need to worry about it unless you got a Zero Dead Pixel policy.
-
I'd rather have zero dead pixel of course but oh well what you gonna do?
-
1) try massaging the spot gently. sometimes this works.
if its a new laptop u might be able to get the screen swapped or the unit replaced, also depends on what kind of warranty you have. dell is quite good for replacing screens. -
-
almost a year, thats quite new, should be under warranty no?
-
-
dell does. not sure about toshiba. you can always be a bit vague and say it looks like some pixels are dead lol.
-
I'll give it a try and call them tomorrow. Fingers crossed they'll be friendly. Thanks for the help.

sounds like it's stuck.
Try all the software you can find for unsticking pixels. -
By the way, this spot is really really tiny, like a black dust on the screen(cleaned it several times so it's not dirt). I don't know if that helps you.
Can a dead spot be blue? Because as I said earlier this spot does not show on the blue color on UDPixel software. -

it appears blue not because it is stuck but because of the background (based on your description). I had a similar experience with my screen before and it was confirmed dead :\
usually new laptops may be able to bargain for one-to-one exchange for the screen but yours is one year old so... a bit difficult. -
Ok but help me understand this. They say dead pixels are black(it has no color). In my case, it does NOT show up on blue which tells me the problem pixel is some kind of blue, am I right?
Any other opinions? -

its against the forum rules to bump a thread within 24 hours.
if its stuck, you'll see it as blue, not black, even if the rest of the screen is displaying red.
anyway who cares. run the software to unstick pixels, if it dosent fix the problem, your only option is to replace the LCD under warranty or out of warranty if you dont mind paying.
simple. -
Dude. If you don't care why are you even responding then? LOL.
Anyways...The dot is so little that you can't tell if it's black or blue. It just blends in when the whole screen is blue. -
no i meant caring whether its stuck or dead. running the unsticking software wont hurt the computer, and after that if its still got a problem, your only solution is likely to replace the lcd.
also u can try putting a drop of water (this magnifies the pixels) or alternatively just use a magnifying glass to see if u can determine the colour -
Oh ok. Sorry
I am running the software at the moment. I was just thinking about the magnifying glass too actually. I don't have one so I'll get one and take a look at it.
Also I found this article when I googled. It is very useful for people who wants to know about the problematic pixels. I didn't even know about the sub-pixels!

Will let you know after I look through the magnifying glass. Thanks again. -
I looked at it with the magnifying glass. It's blue. I will try the software again and massage the screen.
Do these things go away by themselves? -
rarely.....
-
If the pixel is fine on BLUE background only, it means the Red and Green subpixels are dead or stuck in off state. Every pixel has 3 subpixels... R G B.
Here's a guide I found... http://www.mcclainsolutions.com/news/LCD_Damage.html -
