so i have already upgraded the ram to 2x1gb sticks,
looking to upgrade the cpu but don't know what my options are in regards to compatiblity? or even how to install a laptop cpu. have built many computers and installed my laptop ram so i sort of know how to fiddle
wiki says the t5500 is an M type so i assume the highest is a t7600?

is the jump not big enough to warrant paying for a new cpu?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...s#Core_2_Duo_2

i also don't know how to change my video card to 512mb of ram?
or does it just automatically do that when stressed enough.

any input would be greatly appreciated.

On CPU upgrade you have a socket M (Ultimate CPU Guide/ Lithus, worth a read) so T7200, T7400 and T7600 among others. You said you upgraded RAM because 1GB did look low in original config. HDD is not good, it is small so @5400 really not good, low density=slow at that speed. Your best upgrade now is HDD. The CPU can get Expensive, you actually have to pay more for inferior CPU's that are being fazed out vs newer faster ones. On to GPU, I am going to say you cannot upgrade as 99% cannot be. I have not researched so you should confirm that.

The F3J video card is not upgradeable.

yeah was definately looking into a bigger hard drive anyway but didn't know it would affect speed. what would be an ideal hard drive?

also is upgrading cpu just like the ram? take off the covers and such and stick it in?

Well I recommend at least a 5400 RPM with around 160GB size, although optimally a 7200RPM drive. The fastest hard disks available (other than SSDs) is the Hitachi 7K200 200GB 7200RPM (access time) and the WD Scorpio 320GB 5400RPM (transfer speeds).

LOL not quite as easy. It's definitely more intensive that would require you to be disassembly the thermal cooling devices ie; heatsink & CPU fan. The F3J cpu socket should be accessible from one of the back panels.

if it was to affect gaming though would greater access time be the best bet? do hard drives even effect games

The HDD will only effect the load time for gaming, during gameplay the HDD is not involved. Game play issues are almost always GPU related. Even CPU upgrade is likely to be minimal improvement in gameplay. ;) Sorry.
