So the battery that came with my Gateway FX P7805u Refurb seems to be a dud and I've already received a new replacement battery that works fine.

Is there anything I can do with the battery? Test it, fix it, sell it, recycle it, give it away, toss it in the ocean, blow it up :D ?

I'd rather not have it go to waste, and I've a strong feeling that I should be able to make something out of it. I'm hoping I can get it to work, maybe it has bad contacts or something. When I insert the battery, I isn't recognized by the laptop. Is there some way I can test if the battery works?

    Thanks NBR

Old gateway batteries (at least before 2007) used to have a button you could push and it would light up to tell you if it worked and what the charge was. I guess they did away with that...

Whatever you do, don't throw it in the garbage. It's very harmful to the environment. Since you live in the states, you can use http://www.ehso.com/ehso2.php?URL=http://www.rbrc.org/consumer/uslocate.html and it will help you locate a retailer that will recycle the battery for you.

There are also some tuts about replacing the battery cells around the web, so you could attempt a repair job, but my guess is. TRICKEEHHH :)
