When I defragment and the screen goes blank is it still working? Would it be perfectly fine if I just leave it on and go to sleep?

    Screen goes blank ?

If only the monitor/LCD switches off, then the defragmentation will contimue in the background.

If the PC goes into standby, then the defrag won't continue.

Sleep - Suspends the execution of the current thread until the time-out interval elapses.

Nothing will operate, when the PC is in sleep mode.

Go to your power options. Its an option right under your Screen saver menu.

And set Sleep to never happen. It is safe to set the Display to Turn Off to happen while you are running something like your defragger.
