I am looking to upgrade my Dell 1420. I originally got the intel integrated chip but found a mobo that was offered as an upgrade to my laptop with a nVidia 8400m GS. Wondering if I will have any sort of problems swapping the mobos besides the usual headache of taking all the screws out and making sure they all get back in :D

Seems like it is just a lot of organization to do it but as long as I do not need to upgrade anything else I will be ok. I got my magnets ready to hold the screws.

How so? Please elaborate. The way I see it all Dell did was offer a different mobo for $100 more... unless there is something I am missing? Which do you have the nVidia or the Intel?

Are you asking if the new mobo will actually work? Because it will. All the connectors on both boards should be the same; it is possible that some of the chips on both boards are moved around, but that should not affect compatibility. It's not difficult to do the swap either, just more or less time consuming. Dell provides a nice service manual detailing the procedure no less:

Haha oops completely missed that second line ;) Want me to let you know if it goes well? Or are you happy with the intel?

Awh thank you! I was talking to Dell all morning and they wouldn't give me a straight answer it was very frustrating!
