A poll ?? are you asking what is the maximum supported size of your notebook or do you want recommendations ? without telling what you do on your notebook no one can give you a good answer, but in general 4GB is more than enough for an average user right now.

As for the technical limitations of your notebook; according to DELL reference material, maximum memory size is limited to 4GB (Page 25: Specifications > Memory)

If the 1535 is Santa Rosa based (which I believe it is), then theoretically, it should be able to support 8gb. However, BIOS support might be lacking.

Make sure you can return those expensive 4gb DDR2 DIMMS if they don't work, in other words.

I'm just asking what your personal preference (in the poll) is.

Buy as per the topic, MAX memory.

I have heard of people with 8 and even 16GB of RAM, if 4GB is the max how do they achieve this?

Different models have different motherboards as well as different BIOSs.

There have been instances where people have reported going over the maximum limit printed on the user manual. So you might still be able to go up to 8GB. But BIOS or some other technical limitations may prevent you from doing so. Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family Datasheet (released by intel) also notes that the maximum memory supported by PM965 is 4GB (Page 12), but DELL is selling XPS M1530 having the same chipset preconfigured with up to 8GB of RAM, guess we can’t rely on official documents anymore. Only one way to find out. Do it your self.

Ask in the Inspiron/Studio forum. I know the older XPS 1530/Inspiron 1720/Inspiron 1520 can support up to 8 GB, and the XPS 1330 up to 6 GB, even though the documents say 4 GB, but I don't recall seeing anyone actually test a Studio yet. It's quite possible someone has tried it, though. My guess would be up to 8 GB would work, even though 4 GB is stated. But without having that laptop, nor any 4 GB modules, I can't say for sure.
